Funerals in church are not just for those who were regular churchgoers. If you or your loved one would prefer a funeral in church, you simply need to let the funeral director know. A Church of England funeral is available to everyone, giving support before, during and after the service, for as long as it’s needed.

A funeral in church can be as long or as short as you would like, and can involve hymns, pictures, readings and eulogies in a more relaxed environment than the Crematorium Chapel can sometimes be. The most important thing for us is that you don’t feel pressured and that you have the time and space you need.

The priest or deacon who will conduct the funeral will meet with you before the funeral to get to know as many of your family as possible, and also to make sure that details you want to be included are not missed out. After the funeral, you are welcome to meet with them again to talk about how things are going. Once a year, in October, there is a memorial service to which you are most welcome, to light a candle and to remember loved ones with others.

The Church of England Funeral website has lots of information on what our funerals are like, and how you might make plans in advance for your own.

If you have any questions, talk to your funeral director or contact the office on 0191 267 0559.
